Seminar on Research Skills, Critical Thinking and Academic Writing, 23 – 24 December, 2019

Center for Political Courage (CPC) organized the seminar on research skills, critical thinking and academic writing on December 23rd and 24th, 2019. Participants were students from various faculties of the University of Prishtina, selected through the open call for applications within the project “Advocacy for the Promotion of Academic Integrity and Quality in Higher Education”. This seminar was lectured by Mr. Vigan Jashari and Ms. Lirije Palushi.

The key themes of this seminar were among others: scientific research, research steps, publications and authorship, critical and creative thinking, essay and papers writing. In addition to the highly dynamic lectures and discussions, participants also engaged in group workshops, practicing some of the good practices of the topics addressed during the workshop.

This seminar was organized as part of the project “Advocacy for the Promotion of Academic Integrity and Quality in Higher Education”. The project aims to improve the key policies that regulate the issues mentioned above as well as the development of critical thinking, academic writing and soft skills among the first and second-year students of the University of Prishtina.

Seminar on Project Writing and Management, 13-14 January, 2020

Center for Political Courage (CPC) organized the seminar on “Project Writing and Management” with lecturer Mr.Visar Jasiqi, Head of Operations and External Relations at RIT Kosovo (AUK) on January 13th and 14th. Students were provided with the knowledge on how to write and manage projects, as well as learn about successful project advocacy methods.

This seminar was organized as part of the project “Advocacy for the Promotion of Academic Integrity and Quality in Higher Education”. The project aims to improve the key policies that regulate the issues mentioned above as well as the development of critical thinking, academic writing and soft skills among the first and second-year students of the University of Prishtina

Seminar on Soft Skills, 24-25 November, 2019

Center for Political Courage (CPC) organized the “Seminar on Soft Skills” on November 24th and 25th for students of various faculties of the University of Prishtina, selected through the open call for application under the project Advocacy for Advancement of academic integrity and quality in higher education”. This seminar was lectured by Ms. Shenaj Shala, protocol specialist, courtesy consultant, independent mentor and lecturer.

Key topics of this seminar were soft skills including among others: the importance of first impressions and personal image; effective communication and presentation skills; boosting self-confidence; non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions, etc.); effective use of sound (rhythm, tone, dialect, power of silence); managing stress before and during public speaking (job interviews, academic presentations, important meetings, etc.); as well as managing criticism and feedback. In addition to highly dynamic lectures and discussions, participants also engaged in group workshops, practicing some of the good practices of the topics addressed during the workshop.

Seminar: Techniques, Ethics, and the Use of Academic Knowledge

On 13th and 14th June 2019, the Centre for Political Courage (CPC) organized the seminar “Techniques, Ethics, and the Use of Academic Knowledge”. Participants of this seminar were students from various public universities and private colleges in Kosovo, selected through an open call for application. The seminar was delivered by Dr. Gëzim Visoka, assistant professor of Peace and Conflict studies at Dublin City University (DCU), Ireland.

The key topics of this seminar were: introduction of scientific research, techniques and methodology of scientific research, ethics of the research, research-based advocacy and diverse ways of influencing the society through the research knowledge. During the seminar, the participants worked in groups where they reviewed some research reports, analyzed the ontology, epistemology and methodology, main findings, its political and social implications, and strengths and weaknesses of the respective reports. Dr. Visoka also shared some personal experiences related to his academic and research activities, which were interesting and inspiring for the participants.

This seminar was organized within the project “Think globally, act locally – Series of seminars on critical thinking and academic integrity”. The overall goal of the project is to increase student awareness and expand their horizons to the quality that higher education should offer. Also, these activities aim at creating a network of young people who would apply the knowledge and experiences gained from the seminars during their studies and work.

Seminar on Soft Skills, 2-3 May 2019

Centre for Political Courage (CPC) organized the Seminar on Soft Skills on May 2nd and 3rd 2019, the with students from various public universities and private colleges in Kosovo, selected through the open call for applications under the project “Think globally, act locally – Series of seminars on critical thinking and academic integrity”. This seminar was delivered by Ms. Shenaj Shala, protocol specialist, consultant of conduct, mentor and independent lecturer.

The key topics of this seminar were soft skills, including among others: the importance of first impressions and personal image; effective communication and presentation skills; strengthening self-confidence; non-verbal communication (body language, facial expressions, etc.); effective use of voice (rhythm, tonality, dialect, power of silence); managing stress before and during public speaking (job interviews, academic presentations, important meetings, etc.); as well as managing criticisms and feedback. Seminar: The Basics of Critical Thinking and Academic Integrity for University Studies and Student Activism

On March 14 and 15 2019, the Center for Political Courage (CPC) organized the seminar “The Basics of Critical Thinking and Academic Integrity for University Studies and Student Activism”. The seminar was attended by twenty students from higher education institutions in Kosovo, selected from an open call for applications. This seminar was delivered by Dr. Pëllumb Kelmendi, Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, Auburn University, Alabama, USA.

The key theme of the seminar was critical thinking and academic integrity, including, among other things, assertions, arguments, analogies, and graphical representations. In addition to lectures and debates, participants also engaged in group work and analyzed in practice the content of relevant essays. In conclusion Dr. Kelmendi shared with the participants his experience of studying in the most prestigious universities in the US and provided additional information on how the application and content should be taken into consideration by students during their bid to earn a scholarship.

Training: Writing Competitive Proposals for EU funded Projects, 9-10 March 2017

On the 9th and 10th of March 2017, CPC in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Kosovo (MEST) organized training on “Writing Competitive Proposals for EU funded Projects” in Prishtina, Kosovo.

The training, which was convened especially for Kosovar researchers, gathered participants from public and private higher education institutions, think tanks and other research institutions. The Spanish experts in EU Projects, Mrs. Eva Garea Oya, University of Vigo, and Mr. Rafael de Paz, University of Leon, conducted this two-day training.

The main objective of this training was to enhance participants’ skills and knowledge on how to design competitive projects within the scope of the EU calls. Moreover, this training helped participants to identify EU project schemes and to understand the technical and budgetary aspects of the EU funded projects.

At the two day training participated in total twenty people, coming from various institutions in Kosovo. Throughout the training, there were several practical examples and interactions among trainers and the participants, which methodology was well received and appreciated. As for the statistics of the evaluation questionnaire over 65% of the participants were very satisfied with the training while the rest (35%) declared themselves as satisfied with the quality and organization of the training.

During the training relevant EU funding sources were analyzed relevant as well as, the project cycle and approaches, setting a new EU project, formulation and project design. In addition, the training offered an emphasis to the project impact, working packages, financing, and budgetary aspects as well as project implementation phases.

 

 

Training on “Data and Management Analysis”, 27-28 May 2010

On the 27-28 of May, 2010 in Prishtina it was organized “Data and Management Analysis” training. The event was hosted at the University of Prishtina and was organized by very close cooperation of all Local Coorperation Units in the Western Balkans.

Guest trainers were Brian Kleiner and Oliver Lipps from Swiss foundation for research in social sciences (FORS). Mr. Kleiner is head of the Data and Research Information Services Division at FORS. Mr. Lipps is a senior researcher at FORS and has been working on survey methodological issues since 1995.

The seminar focused on features of data management during the course of a research project, it has emphasized the importance of good documentation, the importance of researchers being skilled in using the existing data that they have not themselved produced. The sessions of the two days of the seminar was highly practical and very relevant to ongoing winner research projects.

The interaction between trainers and participants was highly appreciated; the agenda was very flexible and the trainers were very open for researchers needs on managing the data and secondary analysis, the participants could address questions from their respective research projects and share their own experience. The dynamic of group and the discussants in the class were the most appreciated in this seminar.

As for the statistics of the evaluation questionnaire over 85% of the participants were satisfied with the seminar.
